What is the CCCC Youth Internship?
The CCCC Youth Internship is an opportunity to connect and work with the next generation of Cave City Christian Church. We will discuss below, in more detail, what will be included and hopefully be able to answer any questions you have. The short version is: helping kids and teens to learn about God, to grow in their faith, and to become equipped to better handle both the good and bad things that life will throw at them. Along the way, you will also learn more about serving in ministry and leadership in a church setting, get hands on experience teaching, scheduling, coordinating, praying, learning, and growing in both your church life and your personal spiritual life, get opportunities to connect with the church and serve in other ways beyond youth ministry, and be paid while doing it! Read over the rest of this ministry description, and if it seems like something you are interested in, apply today!
Who is the Cave City Christian Church?
CCCC was founded in 1867 and is located in the heart of Cave City, KY, about 30 miles north of Bowling Green and 80 miles south of Louisville, right off of I-65. The town of Cave City is a small, rural community of about 2,500 people, best known for being the gateway to Mammoth Cave National Park and the site of many other show caves and tourist attractions. The Cave City Christian Church is an independent congregation associated with the historic Restoration Movement and has a long-standing history of serving our community and worshipping our God. Our mission is to be a church “where Christ is Preached, and You are Loved.” You can learn more about us on our website, cavecitychristian.org, or our Facebook page. You can also watch previous Sunday worship services on Facebook or YouTube.
Who Would I be Working With?
Your main contact at CCCC will be our minister, Keith Robinson. Keith has a BA in Preaching Ministry, an MSL in Biblical Studies, and over 10 years of experience in local church ministry. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Louisville Bible College. Keith will be your mentor, direct supervisor, and co-leader in ministry. In addition to him, you will be working alongside a dedicated team of volunteers from the congregation and children and teens from both the church and the surrounding community. While none of these groups are huge, you will have the opportunity to make a huge difference in the lives of all of those involved.
What Would I Be Doing?
Your main responsibilities would be to help coordinate and lead all areas of our Sunday youth programming alongside our church volunteers. This would include Sunday School classes for children or teens, nursery and/or children’s church during Sunday morning worship, and youth group on Sunday evenings. Areas of service could include: teaching lessons or devotions, leading games and activities, planning and prep work, coordinating/scheduling volunteer rotations, and giving insight or direction to the structure of the youth program as a whole. In addition, other ministry opportunities will be available as well, depending on your interests, skills, and schedule. These could potentially include: church trips, other youth activities outside of Sunday services, praise and worship team, preaching, Vacation Bible School, personal education and training opportunities, etc. A more concrete outline of responsibilities and opportunities will be discussed during the interview process.
What is the Time Commitment Required?
Our Sunday School classes meet 9:30-10:20 am; Sunday worship is 10:30-11:30ish am; and Sunday youth group is 6:00-7:00 pm. You should expect to be at the church roughly 9:00 am-12:00 pm and 5:30-7:30 pm for these programs. In addition, you will need time to prepare lessons, activities, or other things you might be doing during those times. You will also spend time meeting or talking with our minister about plans, how the programs are doing, and anything else that might be required. About 10 hours per week should be expected, 5 hours here for Sunday programs and 5 additional hours for prep time. More time might occasionally be required for special events and services. Some flexibility will be required.
What if I Run into a Problem I Don’t Know How to Handle?
All problems, conflicts, and other issues will need to be brought to the attention of our minister, Keith Robinson. He will work with you to navigate through and resolve any of these that happen to come up. As your direct supervisor, he will also be the one to handle any interpersonal conflicts or complaints that arise during your internship from other sources.
How Long Does the Internship Last?
This is somewhat negotiable, depending on your availability and what is going on at the church during the year. Our vision is for the internship to last 6 – 12 months initially. Upon completion, the intern and church leadership will be able to discuss potentially renewing or extending the internship, if desired. Failure to abide by the church’s policies and statement of faith, or other major conflicts, could result in the internship being terminated early.
What Will I Be Paid or What Other Benefits Are There?
The CCCC Youth Intern's salary will be $150 per week worked. In addition, meals can be provided by church members on Sundays while here or at other times when at the church for work. Housing can also be made available, either overnight on weekends to make travel easier and/or during school breaks and other times as needed. This can be discussed and arranged accordingly with our minister and church families. If housing is provided, you will not be expected to pay anything for it, but you will be expected to be a courteous houseguest, respectful, responsible, and potentially help with chores when needed.
What Qualifications Do I Need to Apply for the Internship?
All candidates need to be professing, active Christians. You will have the opportunity to describe how you came to faith and what you have been doing in ministry on the application and in the interview process. In addition, all candidates will need to read and agree to abide by the CCCC Statement of Faith. Candidates will also need to pass a background check before they can be officially hired for the position.
