The candidate will possess the qualities laid out in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9. This man must be able to disciple, teach, and shepherd members of the church community. He will be a man who is guided by Gods Word as set forth in the Bible in all matters, and able to effectively communicate his knowledge to the congregation through his sermons. This preacher will be a humble servant and able to both lead and take direction. An ideal candidate will be compassionate, gracious, and personable. He should be trustworthy and able to counsel people when called to do so, quick to listen and slow to speak. This man should be a follower of Jesus Christ, both in word and deed, and led by the Holy Spirit.
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
- Ordained evangelist preferred
- Leadership skills
- Counseling skills
- The evangelist shall promote the growth and well being of New Life Church of Christ. He shall assist the congregation in carrying out the great commission. He shall encourage by word and example the work in missions, worship, and leadership of the church.
- Preferred education from a Bible College faithful to training students to restore the church according to the New Testament pattern
- Candidate should meet the qualification for an evangelist as described in the epistles to Timothy and Titus
- Candidate should work in accordance to the New Testament directives, in cooperation with the eldership
- Some ministerial experience is preferred
- Candidate should be able to organize and work with other people
Duties:
- Required to work 35 hours a week (6 hours daily M- F, plus 5 hours for Sunday morning/night and Wednesday night services)
- Responsible to the eldership of the church
- Help maintain membership roster and baptism records
- Visitation in hospitals, to the membership, to shut-ins, and new visitors
- Provide counseling, as needed, and keep private files for counseling
- Promote growth in the congregation Galatians 5:22-24; 1 Peter 3:8-9
- Be readily accessible to the congregation
- Conduct and participate in two evening programs Sunday evening and Wednesday evening Bible Study
- Prepare and preach weekly Lords Day sermons, morning and nightly services
- Recognize, encourage, and assist in training young men in the congregation into ministry
- Attend and give updates on matters in the congregation at elders and deacons meetings and/or mens meetings
- Community Involvement/Community Outreach
- Be available to attend other committee meetings as needed
- Be able to set quarterly goals (examples: outreach, growth of the congregation, missions)
Compensation:
- Evangelist will be paid weekly an amount agreed upon by the leadership and the evangelist
- Paid vacation shall be two weeks (including two Sundays) per calendar year (14 days).
- Paid during absences to do evangelistic work, as approved by the leadership
- No parsonage available
