What is the function of a wrench? A mechanic may define it by its proper function: “A wrench is a tool; its use is to loosen or tighten bolts and make adjustments.” A do-it-yourself mechanic might also use it as a hammer in the absence of an actual hammer. Others may find it useful in producing artwork (e.g., industrial art, metal sculpture, steampunk, etc.). Which is right? Let’s come back to this in a moment.

“It says what it means, and means what it says.” Does this rule apply to all of Scripture? Even in the same language, words and phrases often have meanings different from the literal. When translating from one language to another (such as Hebrew or Greek into English), often “it loses something in the translation."

Why are so many reluctant to witness to others? The above study does not delve into reasons, but we could probably guess about some.

 Is our restoring work done? Are there other topics that need to be examined?

Here is a case in point.

I see a general gravitation within Restoration Movement churches toward adopting a very denominational perspective on pastoring the local church.

According to Catholic tradition, Jesus appointed Saint Peter as the first pope, establishing him as the foundation of the Church and granting him authority over the other apostles. This belief is based on interpretations of certain biblical passages, particularly Matthew 16:18-19.  However, these interpretations are woefully incorrect. 

Every Fourth of July I enjoy reflecting on the Christian roots in American history.  In the following article, I will highlight some of my favorite reminders of the great spiritual legacy our forefathers gave us.

The Lord's Church in modern America has a serious first-world problem. It should be a blessing, but has it not become a stumbling block? I'm speaking of our church buildings. We've all heard the expression “can't see the forest for the trees.” I'm afraid now we can't see the Church for the buildings.

The solution to MY problem is the one that I propose for others to consider:  COMBINE your physical and spiritual discipline.

With apologies to Ms. Siegel, perhaps those with spiritual eyes and ears might more aptly rephrase her line to read:  Behold, Play-Doh.  Behold, God.

For a long time, I thought if we were going to sing a “praise” song, it was going to have a speedy tempo and some catchy words to it. Recently I’ve expanded my understanding to include special moments like spectacular sunrises, lunar eclipses, and personal victories. But alas, this Hebrew word (‘hallel”) teaches me a different story. I’m no grammarian and I’m not offering a class in Hebrew vocabulary, I’m seeking transformative truth, and worship that transcends the run of the mill worship experience.
