Somewhere along the way, we started giving the enemy way too much credit.
We talk about how he attacks, deceives, and prowls like a lion — and yes, those are real warnings from Scripture, but here's what we often forget: he is a defeated foe.
“The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” (1 John 3:8, NIV)
Jesus didn't negotiate with darkness—He came to extinguish it. And He did. The cross wasn't just a rescue mission for humanity; it was a declaration of war against Satan's kingdom—and Jesus won.
So why do we still walk around afraid of the enemy when the same power that raised Christ from the dead now lives in us (Romans 8:11)?
We've been transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of Light (Colossians 1:13), and we carry the authority of Jesus Himself.
“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” (Luke 10:19)
That’s not a suggestion. That’s a commission.
Yes, Satan is real. Yes, spiritual warfare is real, but fear is not our inheritance—authority is.
The enemy thrives on intimidation. His greatest weapon is getting believers to forget who they are and what they carry. He wants you distracted, discouraged, and doubtful.
However, the moment a child of God remembers their identity, everything shifts.
“Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4, NASB)
You don’t need to walk into a room wondering if darkness will affect you. You walk in knowing that the Light inside of you changes the atmosphere. You don’t need to fear what Satan might do—you live in such a way that he fears what you will do through Christ.
Imagine if the Church really believed this. Imagine if every believer woke up aware that heaven backs them, the Spirit of God empowers them, and the gates of hell can’t stand against them (Matthew 16:18).
Hell should be nervous when you wake up. Not because of who you are on your own but because of Who lives in you.
You were never meant to cower in fear—you were created to walk in power, in truth, and in love; not arrogantly, but with a bold humility that says, “I know who I am because I know Whose I am.”
Next time fear whispers about what the enemy might do, remind yourself: “I am not afraid of the dark. I carry the Light.”
Philippians 2:8 says of Jesus, “Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Did you ever give much thought to the statement “He humbled Himself?”
Yet, the love that Jesus commanded is not about “working to make your neighbor happy by affirming their perceived identities or choices.” For one, happiness is not the defining quality of love. Happiness often accompanies the type of love that Jesus commands, but not necessarily in the short run.
Sometimes Christians can get so excited about the redemption Jesus brings that they fail to tell any other part of the
Biblical story. We rightly rejoice that our sins are forgiven; this truly is great news! However, if this is the only
part of the story you know — or if you mistake this part as being the whole story — it is easy to end up with a
fragmented or even reduced view of the gospel.
