The Church of the Living Fad

Rick Warren needs to give that Ashley Smith of ATL, GA a hefty cut of his royalties from that book of his.  Thanks to her hostage experience and the ever-accomodating fickle media, that book has gone from #75 on the best-seller list up to #2.  That stupid book was starting to fade from memory until it was "conveniently" revived by that hostage ordeal.

And for us "Southerners": After the Bible, "Gone With The Wind" was the biggest seller in American history. Now "The Purpose-Drivel Life" is second to the Bible. Just for that, all Southerners ought to rise up and declare WAR on the "Land of Fruits & Nuts!"

Americans are fickle, shallow, and gullible to any fad or trend.  Shallow and superficial religious fads of recent memory include:

"The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale

Any book by Robert Schuller, (mostly 70's & 80's).

In the 80's it was books by Charles Swindoll.

In the 90's it was books by Max Lucado

"WWJD" (What Would Jesus Do?)

" The Prayer of Jabez"

"Purpose-Drivel Church"

"Purpose-Drivel Life"

I wonder what will be next? It makes the hair on my neck stand up to think of what Americans will go chasing after next.

Most Churches ought to just be renamed "The Church of the Wavering Reed."  That's about what 90% of them are nowadays.

In Revelation 22:9, the Lord says, "Yes, I am coming soon!" The response given is: "AMEN. COME, LORD JESUS!"  (Better make it quick, Lord. There ain't gonna be much of a church left to come back for if You don't hurry it up!)

"LORD, HAVE MERCY!"

I hope nobody suspects poor old Rick of being in league with that hostage-taking fellow as a publicity stunt.  I know he's a "closet" Baptist, but I'm sure even Baptists wouldn't go that far!  - Kent
