Environmentalism In General

Why I Am NOT an "Environmentalist"
This little speech/article is from about 1996.  While it is dated in its examples, it gives you an idea of what Kent thinks of environmental-ism

Here is a little preview of the second article:

"The American people must be made aware of what environmentalism actually stands for and of what they stand to lose, and have already lost, as the result of its growing influence. They must be made aware of the environmental movement's responsibility for the energy crisis and the accompanying high price of oil and oil products . . . its consequent responsibility for the enrichment of Arab sheiks at the expense of the impoverishment of hundreds of millions of people around the world, including many millions here in the United States. They must be made aware of its responsibility for the vastly increased wealth, power, and influence of terrorist governments in the Middle East, stemming from the high price of oil it has caused, and for the resulting need to fight a war in the region."

Those Goofy Environmentalists
This is actually an RH print re-run.  But it fits here as an account of how some professing Christians can get goofy about environmentalism.  Some criticized what say here about DDT.  I am not an expert on this by any means, but I leave my original comments about DDT here.  For more information about DDT and malaria, see the article below.

DDT Use and Malaria
If you care to wade through this, you can learn a lot about the use of DDT to control malaria.  Environmentalists often view human beings as a problem, even the most innocent of whom can be sacrificed to their ideology.  (This selection is used with the permission of the Acton Institute.)

A lot of bad ideas start outside Christian thought - that's a good thing - and finally filter into the Christian thought - that's a bad thing.   The "religion" of environmentalism is a good example of one of these ideas.  Environmentalism can easily become "wacky."  For examples:

"I think if we don't overthrow capitalism, we don't have a chance of saving the world ecologically. I think it is possible to have an ecologically sound society under socialism. I don't think it's possible under capitalism." Judi Bari, Earth First!

"No matter if the science is all phony, there are collateral environmental benefits ... [C]limate change [provides] the greatest chance to bring about justice and equality in the world." Christine Stewart, Canadian Environment Minister.

"We must make this an insecure and inhospitable place for capitalists, and their projects…[W]e must reclaim the roads and plowed land, halt dam construction, tear down existing dams, free shackled rivers and return to wilderness millions of tens of millions of acres of presently settled land." Dave Foreman, "Confessions of an Eco Warrior," 1991.

"We've got to ride the global-warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing, in terms of economic policy and environmental policy."

Timothy Wirth, Clinton Administration U.S. Under Secretary of State for Global Affairs, and one of a number of politicians (including Barbara Boxer, Barney Frank, Al Gore, John Kerry, Christopher Shays, and others) who were designated as "Green Leadership for the '90s."

It has become apparent lately that many Christians have decided to jump on the environmentalism bandwagon.  Articles pointing in this direction have begun to appear in Christian publications from the Lookout to Christianity Today.

From watching coverage of 'global warming' you might get the idea that scientists generally agree that it is a problem that is human-caused.  But here you can find 31,000 scientists who disagree and have registered that disagreement by signing a petition which reads:

We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.

The Contest No One Has Entered

Ultimate Global Warming Challenge Ups Prize Money to $125,000 for Proving Humans Cause Catastrophic Climate Change

Washington, DC, September 25  ─ The Ultimate Global Warming Challenge announced today that it raised to $125,000 the cash award to the first person to prove in a scientific manner that human emissions of greenhouse gases will cause catastrophic global climate change. (Ultimate Global Warming Challenge)

"Surprisingly no one has entered the contest yet," said Steven Milloy, founder and publisher of JunkScience.com and the sponsor of the Ultimate Global Warming Challenge. "I'm surprised since Al Gore, the United Nations and the mainstream media all seem to think that the notion of manmade catastrophic global warming is a no-brainer," Milloy added.

The Ultimate Global Warming Challenge was launched on Aug. 7, 2007 with the popular and highly rated YouTube video entitled, "Can You Save Al Gore?."

"It appears that $100,000 is not enough to spur Al Gore and other climate alarmists to submit their proofs that humans are causing global warming," explained Milloy.

"If it's a matter of money, Al Gore and the alarmists should just come out and tell us what sum it will cost the rest of us to see what proof they have."

The Big Chill

"During the past billion years, the Earth's climate has fluctuated between warm periods - sometimes even completely ice-free - and cold periods, when glaciers scoured the continents."  So begins this interesting article.  It is not about "global warming," but reading it and exercising even half your brain will show you that the global warming hype of "environmentALism" is pointless babble.
